September 7th is World Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day, a disease that sees us, as a company, at the forefront of the search for a drug that can slow down its progression.
Worldwide there are more than 250,000 people affected by Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy. Even though it was first described more than 150 years ago, not many people are aware of the impact this disease has on the lives of those affected, their siblings and their entire family.
The aim of this day is precisely to make people more conscious.
This year the theme is Women in Duchenne. Usually in this disease the spotlight is mostly on boys and men because it affects them most of all.
All over the world, however, there are extraordinary women who play a fundamental role, in advocacy, research and care: mothers who care for their children, women who may be carriers of the disease with or without symptoms, and women involved in research.
This day is dedicated to all of them, and we are particularly proud to support the Duchenne Community and to support this global awareness day.
